The job before the pick

  • Choose targets by punish window, not by whichever health bar appears first.
  • Pressure with your Vanguard when possible; solo flanks need an exit plan before they need confidence.
  • If you cannot finish kills, switch from harder mechanics to cleaner timing and easier angles.

Which enemy has no escape or defensive cooldown?

Check 2

Can my team see the target I am about to pressure?

Check 3

Where do I leave if the flank does not work immediately?

Damage is useful only when it changes the fight

A Duelist can have impressive damage and still lose if the pressure never forces a cooldown, creates space, or finishes a target. Before each fight, pick the enemy most likely to become punishable: the isolated support, the overextended damage hero, or the Vanguard who just spent their survival tool.

Once that target appears, commit with a clear window. If the window closes, reset and look again instead of chasing through three bad sightlines.

Flank with a return plan

Flanks are powerful when they split attention at the same time your team is ready to move. They become throws when you start them late, take too long, or fight somewhere your team cannot trade. Plan the route in both directions before you leave the main group.

The simplest rule is this: if the flank fails in the first cooldown cycle, leave. Surviving with pressure is better than feeding while trying to prove the angle was right.

Swap for reliability before tilt takes over

If your pick needs perfect aim or perfect setup and the lobby is messy, swap to a hero with repeatable pressure. Reliable damage, clear target focus, and fast resets usually climb better than a highlight pick that only works every third fight.
